creative relationships, John Moye, Moye White

John MoyePartnering with the right people in business makes all the difference in the world. Since almost day one of opening our doors in 1971, Associates III has enjoyed a relationship with attorney John Moye like no other.

John has this amazing knack of making the legal world and language understandable to everyone. He listens to our requests and opinions about how our business needs to run, and then tailors words that honor our point of view and protects our best interests.

We ask for simple-eze vs. legal-eze in our contract language and he has crafted and obliged, again and again. He makes everyone feel at ease and truly wants a win–win for all. His positive, can do, inclusive attitude wins over even the toughest of critics. He engenders trust, and thereby elevates credibility in a creative arena where people may not have always had the best of experience.

We consider him an extension of Associates III and in alignment with our philosophy: he reflects who we are and what we strive to be – all that is good and true and honest in business and life.

A recent article in Colorado Super Lawyers Magazine paid homage to this wonderful person. We are in awe of his accomplishments and rare ability to build consensus while making the law accessible. It was no surprise to us to read that he has influenced so many young legal minds over the years. Nor that he injected a sense of fun through the creation of “Contract Rap” rhyming couplets as a way to memorize legal concepts. It confirms all we know and love about the man.

Congratulations John on the well-deserved recognition and thank you for working with us and on our behalf for 43+ years.

Colorado Super Lawyers Magazine recently published a great article about Moye White founding partner John Moye and the vast impact he has had, not just within the legal industry, but within the Denver community. The article covers many aspects of John’s career, from his college years at Notre Dame where he worked as a disc jockey at the campus radio station, through today. The article also includes insight from many of John’s friends and colleagues, such as MW attorney Keely Downs as well as John’s legal assistant of 30 years, Glenna McKelvy

Periwinkle Porte recently had the delightful opportunity to sit down and chat with Maggie Tandysh, one of Associates III Interior Design’s remarkable senior designers, about her approach to and thoughts on interior design. Here’s what she had to say:

Periwinkle Porte: When you first put pencil to paper for a project where do you start?

Maggie Tandysh: I like to start with the master plan, playing with the style, location and architectural aspects that are already in place, finding ways to integrate the outside with the inside of the home and building on these features by repeating or complementing the exterior finishes and identifying areas for the key details to come.

PP: Speaking of details, talk a bit more about this important design component.

Master BathMT: Details show care and attention. It comes down to building things in to the design that have a purpose, are well thought out and provide for great use of space. Take bathrooms, for example, which can become tedious and redundant in a home if the details are not carefully attended to. I personally love designing bathrooms. I enjoy selecting tiles that bring interest into the space and choosing fixtures that are unique so they seem more like furniture rather than hardware.

PP: What else about designing interiors do you particularly enjoy?

MT: Now that’s hard to say; I enjoy so much! I enjoy coordinating the pieces – taking the concepts and big picture ideas and making sure to implement them in a way that everything blends seamlessly and works well together.

PP: With this in mind, where do you draw your inspiration from?

MT: I find inspiration in so many places – from the architect’s words, to the client’s wishes, to finding ways of utilizing different team member’s strengths and expertise. A lot of my inspiration comes from being 100% accountable, knowing that the client and team are counting on me. I revel in knocking a client’s socks off and that definitely keeps me going!

PP:  Describe your ideal team to work with.

MT: A collaborative team is so important. I love working with a team that is open to ideas, seeks involvement, provides feedback and confirmation, one in which each person – architect, builder, client, designer and subcontractors – has a strong buy in on the project and brings their excitement and enthusiasm to their daily duties.

PP: How do you feel when the final piece is in place and the last installation is done?

MT: So proud and satisfied! Thankful to the team that we pulled it together; I love the sense of completion that comes at the end of a project – the period at the end of the sentence when all the i’s are dotted and t’s have been crossed. I find there are always lessons to be learned, a different way of doing things to keep in mind for the next time. Our projects are always filled with high integrity and high quality, which makes the final moments really special and meaningful.

creative relationships, holistic style

After many years in business – it can’t be 40! – our team has gained a certain notoriety for the type of work that we do. Commonly coined as green or sustainable, it seems that this phrase is so overused these days that I’m hesitant to use it at all when discussing who we are and what we do. Instead, I respond by placing more emphasis on beauty, nurturance, healthy and responsible – words that embrace a more holistic style.  These better describe our approach, directly address why some are drawn to us, and are absolutely what turns our cranks.

A student of dance for years, I often compare the discipline of design to the Dance on!discipline of movement. Dance consumed my days and nights through my teens and into my early twenties. Similar words had the same impact and motivated my work then as now – the personification of grace and beauty; how it nurtures the soul and spirit, bringing health to dancer and onlooker. I felt a great responsibility to be a strong and clear conduit then, as I do today in communicating about the design of interiors, watching our team crafting spaces that hum with life, soothing and supporting wellbeing on every level. That speaks to me far more than the term green design.

And that brings up the question of what next?  So…..what’s next?

We’re always looking for the next door to open, anticipating the next brilliant design idea to be what lies beyond. As we explore new paths, we know they are taking us way past green and require that we embrace our role as design leaders more fully and without hesitation. With every interaction, we peel back the layers of our craft like the proverbial onion, we see how to make our services more meaningful and of even greater value to others.

Collaboration is definitely next. A lot more of it. Drawing others in and forming deeper creative relationships that allow room for the incubation of dreams and for exceptional design ideas to emerge and develop. We see this platform as one of the ways to make this happen!

Dive in!And let’s not forget bravery, that’s definitely required too. Maybe each of us are bold explorers of this new domain, willing to step out, to speak up, and to search, stretch and share what inspires us while strengthening our connection and deepening respect for our planet.

We seek to thrive and flourish, very much like the spaces we create, and to do so with gratefulness in our hearts, with a smile and a skip in our step. We look forward to enjoying whatever lies ahead, for what it teaches us and the wisdom it reveals. Brings to mind the saying about experiences not being about the destination, rather the journey.  How true!
